- One rhetorical appeal that Archer used in “College Debt.” would be emotional because Archer expresses his own experiences about paying for college, speaks his mind and relates college to the “American Dream” which shows his emotions.
- I believe Archer used the aim of inquiry in his writing because it makes the reads for questions. He is not trying to persuade his writers, he is simply informing us that college debt is real. Archer is stating facts about pricing of tuition and when you read “College Debt.” you notice that he has done his research whenever he states household incomes from previous years, etc.
- I do not think that Archer is a reasonable reasoner in “College Debt.” simply because he isn’t considering his audience and he is not open to constructive criticism from other meaning he is very strong but also single minded. The only criteria of a “Reasonable Reasoner” would be that he is well informed, he did his research and he states facts.
- I do trust Archer’s statement about college debt being a reality for many students and their families which is very true and relatable for many students or people that have gone to college or are in college. He also is very trustworthy because he did his research and stated facts about his opinion.
Waking up and Taking Charge
- The shared topic between these two excerpts is debt.
- “College Debt.” was mainly focused on college debt and how college can effect you financially. “Waking Up and Taking Charge” was mainly focused on debt in general ranging from financial aid to credit card debt and any financial problems that can effect us on a day-to-day basis.
- I see Kamenetz as a good spokesperson because she states her opinions, does her research, has different point of views and can talk about general debt throughout the whole essay but still stay on topic.
- I believe that Kamenetz’s proposal is controversial because she states her argument, sticks with it, provides evidence to support her opinion and can relate her topic to many different subjects.
- I believe that many students would agree with her proposal because she is against student debt and even states “Where is our national student antidebt crusade”
- Colleges, public and or private schools staff would all disagree with her proposal because the students tuition is how they get paid and their tuition also goes towards books, any anything that school may need.
- Change in debt should be promoted.
