• Jenkins’ proposed solution can be very controversial because there are people on campuses that love sports and believe that NCAA players should have more educational rights and or be able to have the choice to major in sports education, for example, get college credit hours for practice after school. However, there are also a lot of people on campus that believe school comes before sports and all NCAA players should be more focused on their education instead of the sport they play and NCAA players should have to pick a different major than a sports related major. Jenkins’ solution is very controversial and can become a very strong argument. I believe that coaches, families of players, players themselves and people that love sports would agree with Jenkins. On the other hand, maybe the dean, professors and people that don’t know much about NCAA sports would disagree with Jenkins.
Claim: Colleges should create a major in educational sports especially for NCAA players.
Reason: This needs to be a major because NCAA players need to have something educational that they are physically good at so they can relate to it and do better in school to get them somewhere in or after school.
Evidence: Jenkins’ has the idea that if colleges have this as a major, athletes will do better in school so they are also able to stay in sports. Jenkins’ interviews a few athletes to get their opinion as well to back up her claim.
• According to Archers’ argument, the value of colleges degrees have gone down because “times are changing” Archer states. He believes that college degrees are not desired as much as they used to be. There are a lot of teenagers now that can make it big and having no college degree. Kids nowadays have no desire to go to school when they can make it big by becoming a rapper for example. The cost to go to college is unbelievable and not everyone is wealthy. College degrees to people nowadays aren’t worth $60,000. Students determine financial payoff of their college education from their parents. Most students rely on their parents because a minimum wage job they have now, will not cover it.
